Ooooh I Used to be Funny sounds riiiiight up my alley. Bummer about The Greatest Hits.
and I also hate crowds/typically avoid movie theaters especially post-COVID. But I miss it at the same time. My favorite is the Landmark in Edina but alas, my schedule these days does not typically allow me to bounce during the middle of the day to see a sad, slow film and be the youngest person in the theater. Still, maybe I need to take PTO to do this, because those were the days.
Still digesting the entirety of TTPD but really appreciate the breakdown. My first thoughts were wow, wordy. And yes, we’ve heard these melodies before. She’s mature, she’s angry. I need more time but appreciate this recap very much! 😘😘
My thoughts and relationship to the album have already changed in the time since Friday! I've been reading a lot about it and re-listening and there's still so many more layers to uncover.
Ooh, I'm very interested in your take on Under the Bridge...I was going to start it this weekend! Also thanks for linking the Time 100 list...it's always one of my faves and I also love learning the connections between the authors and subjects. And I hadn't heard of I Used to be Funny but am adding it to my list!
YES I agree re: the true crime weariness. Going to watch it today...yah I'm sure the performances are good...like Lily Gladstone?! I can't imagine her being anything but fantastic.
Mads—I am reading The Frozen River right now! Joe heard the author interviewed on MPR and recommended it to me. But I have a few bones to pick that I’ll share on our walk.

yeah not having a small child makes it a lot easier for me to play hooky for a mid-week matinee!

I think Under the Bridge has good performances - I might also just be weary of dramatized true crime!

I just had to come back on here and say I like the show, but bc you mentioned Riley's TERRIBLE wig, I can't stop staring at it! 🤣
Haha! My tendencies to be a wig cop is a blessing and a curse!

Can't wait to hear!

omg Claire I was hoping you'd comment! I want to love the lyric but I would bet all my money it's about Matty and not Travis and I CANNOT
